Lewis County Book Swap Encourages a Love of Reading
Lewis County Elementary School and the Family Resource Center recently hosted the annual Lewis County Book Swap, an exciting literacy event designed especially for Pre-K through 2nd grade students. The goal of the event is to promote a love of reading while giving students the opportunity to take home books of their own.
Out of the 483 students enrolled at Lewis County Elementary School, a total of 146 book swap forms were turned in, and the school community generously donated 300 books to help make the event a success.
During the book swap, every student received one free book, ensuring that each child had the chance to take home something new to read. Students who participated by bringing books to swap were rewarded with three books each. In total, 337 students received one book, while 146 students who contributed books received three books.
This year’s event was made even more special thanks to the Dollar General Literacy Grant, which was awarded to the Lewis County Family Resource Center. Through this grant, the center was able to purchase over 1,000 additional books, helping ensure there were plenty of options for students to choose from and supporting the success of the book swap.
The Lewis County Book Swap continues to be a wonderful way to encourage young readers, build excitement around books, and strengthen the school’s commitment to literacy. Thanks to the support of the Family Resource Center, community donations, and the Dollar General Literacy Grant, hundreds of Lewis County students were able to take home books and continue growing their love of reading.
